IWill blogs

Anxiety Disorder is a mental health disorder marked by extreme restlessness, fear, thinking patterns that lead a person to imagine the worst. Anxiety disorder makes a person so fearful and worried that it interferes with their daily activities due to being a pattern.

Types of anxiety disorder

Generalized Anxiety Disorder: The fear is usually persistent and the worry object can keep changing. Sometimes it could be health, other times it could be someone turning late, someone not responding, imagining the worst future outcomes, not being able to even take slightest of uncertainty, extreme forms of thinking led by fear and resultant exhaustion, shattering of peace and broken decision making. This anxiety disorder also makes working extremely difficult due to continuous disruptions

Social Anxiety Disorders: Extreme fear of embarrassing oneself in social settings. Getting thoughts like people are judging me, not turning in work in time, being aloof, feeling constantly debilitated in social settings.

Panic Disorder: Sudden intense episodes of the panic attack triggered by anything including emotions, some spaces, some places, and sometimes just due to thoughts or even nothing really obvious as a trigger. Panic disorder causes extreme disruption and makes a person fearful of repeat patterns happening.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: A disorder marked by extreme stored pain and fear and flashbacks due to a stressful event/incident in the past. Death of a loved one, being in a combat zone, or being in situations that are extremely threatening, facing extremely tough situations can lead to PTSD.

Separation anxiety. Little kids aren’t the only ones who feel scared or anxious when a loved one leaves. Anyone can get separation anxiety disorder. If you do, you’ll feel very anxious or fearful when a person you’re close with leaves your sight. You’ll always worry that something bad may happen to your loved one.

Treatment & Diagnosis

A psychologist or a psychiatrist can diagnose anxiety clinically. There are tests, however, validated ones like GAD7 (also available on the IWill app) that can help suggest if it could be an anxiety disorder. This needs to be further reconfirmed by a therapist in therapy settings

The most prominent treatment for all anxiety Disorder is Clinical psychotherapy (as on the IWill app) and medications as needed.

Therapy helps in identifying, understanding, and changing painful thoughts and beliefs that are making a person hold on to anxiety patterns!

Some self-help tips

  1. When struck by fear,, try to sit down, relax your breathing, and become aware of what you are thinking and feeling. Try to challenge yourself how these thoughts could be not as real. And how you need to relax

  2. Writing and journaling the pain and anxious thoughts down can help you

  3. Make time for activities that can make you feel happy and engage in these.

  4. You can use cbt tools available on the IWill app that are completely free.
