Schizophrenia/Psychosis- Everyone left her when she needed them the most

Shalini's Symptoms

Oh my god, she is always acting so crazy... she is always scared that someone will kill her, you deserve better

She makes even eating food so difficult. And she talks completely senseless things... It's draining to be around

She cries and crawls on the floor at times. And she then gets so fearful and acts so weird...

She doubts everything. She doubts the colours that she sees, TV, sometimes even food...

You should get married to someone else. You should not ruin your life like that

And Shalini [name changed] was sent to a mental health home...

Shalini was once a happy person with a lot of spark in her.

She loved colours and would be particular about what shade of pink she wants to wear.

She was never fearful. She would say that she would win the world. She would hardly be seen crying. Her laughter was permanent and precise.

She would sing songs and be the happiest person with l the life

Then she got married into a family that was toxic.

Shalini was the most pampered girl anyone would have seen. Her friends would say they wanted a family like hers... her birthdays were the most lavish.

But when she got married, her new family would make her feel very unwanted. Her love and chirpy laughter were treated as childish and immature. Her innocent gestures were seen as a manipulation tactic.

She would be isolated, always attacked... her big dreams would always be criticised, and comparisons were constant

She would be made to feel alone, less, completely unwanted, and her self-esteem and emotions would always be attacked

If she did something in her career, she would be made to feel like not good enough or that there was nothing significant about it

The home made her basic happiness in life turn completely upside down

No one cared for her, and that was a shock to her

No one valued her work or presence. This was something that never happened to her.

No one liked her laughter, what she wanted to see or like, there was no space for that.

She became severely depressed and this was seen as her way of taking attention. Her tears, her pain, everything appeared nothing but a drama.

Even her own husband would say, she cries because she enjoys sadness

She then experienced her father's severe health crisis. The man she was closest to was now unwell and fighting for his life

This broke her...the years of trauma post marriage, and now this and a state of deep depression, pushed her into extreme hallucinations... it was like the mind pushed her into an alternate reality because her reality was now

And then as you read everyone deserted her

Yes schizophrenia produces hallucinations and so does psychosis triggered by say extreme depression

But love heals, understanding of the person behind the illness is important

SHALINI was deserted and IWill through a partner organisation provided her therapy.

She is with medication and with therapy now starting to get better. Her active hallucinations have stopped. She sleeps a lot but that's important for her. Soon she will start doing certain things to keep her day productive... she smiles sometimes and she can process her and our true reality.

Therapy and medication can heal mental health issues, no matter how serious they have become.

She will heal. She will be herself. But the biggest lesson here is to make the environment trigger-free for a person when they are all fine. And then don't desert them.... the biggest test of a family is when someone is unwell and needs them...

There should be no more Shalinis. And that's the purpose of sharing this article. Please read. Please comment. And please share
